DEVELOPING HEALTHY DRAGONS
As my daughter prepares to make the leap from elementary to intermediate school, we've had to consider what she'll be confronted with in the years ahead.
There are dangers facing kids of all ages, and empowering students to effectively combat them must be a top priority. The primary responsibility for keeping our kids safe lies with parents. But our children spend more time in school than virtually anywhere else, and we have an opportunity to set an appropriate tone at every grade level that will help them make great decisions throughout their Carroll careers and beyond.
I recall what it was like to lose a classmate. While my story is different than what our community has faced this year, even a single tragic event has a devastating and lasting impact. We must support the campus and central administrators in their efforts to keep our students safe.
In my one-on-one discussions with our campus administrators, I've learned that each has thoughts on what we can and should do for our students. We've got great leaders in place. We must allow them to lead and support them in these critical areas.
The school district, city leaders, and community organizations like SPARK have done an impressive job of starting conversations. I will ensure that this topic remains part of our vocabulary for the duration of my family’s residence in Southlake.
